Hajime Moriyasu to continue as Japan manager, Takuya Oiwa named successor
Japan national team manager Hajime Moriyasu will continue to lead the team for the next six months until the 2027 Asian Cup. Takuya Oiwa, current manager of the U-21 Japan team, has been named as his successor.
Moriyasu's continued tenure
At a press conference on July 24, Moriyasu expressed his determination, stating, "I want to do my best to achieve results within the contract period and contribute to the development of Japanese soccer and the victory of the national team." The Japan Football Association described this as "an important process for the development of Japanese soccer."
Takuya Oiwa appointed as successor
Oiwa, a graduate of Shimizu Commerce High School, played for Nagoya Grampus, Jubilo Iwata, and Kashima Antlers during his career. He led the Japan team to the quarter-finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, earning recognition for his coaching abilities.
Japan's preparation for the 2026 World Cup
Japan has recorded two wins, two draws, and one loss in their last five matches (LDWDW). Although they lost 2-1 to Brazil, they are expected to strengthen the team ahead of the Asian Cup.
With Moriyasu's continued tenure and Oiwa's appointment, Japan's preparations for the 2026 World Cup are taking shape.
