Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu extends contract to Asian Cup

Japan national team manager Hajime Moriyasu (57) will continue until the 2027 Asian Cup, with the Japan Football Association explaining the decision at a press conference on July 24. The human relationship with JFA president Tsuneyasu Miyamoto (49) proved crucial.

From contract termination to extension

President Miyamoto had informed Moriyasu in March that his contract would not be renewed after the World Cup. After failed attempts to hire a foreign manager, Miyamoto approached Moriyasu in May about extending his contract through the Asian Cup. Moriyasu expressed gratitude, saying he was treated "straightforwardly as a person."

Moriyasu's reaction

Moriyasu stated, "The president really faced me directly, gave me courage, and shared his thoughts." Regarding the reversal from contract termination to extension, he added, "We were treated as people and shared the same vision for developing Japanese football."
