Moriyasu stays on as Japan boss
Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu (55) has been reappointed after the June 29 friendly loss to Brazil. The decision was announced alongside the squad’s upcoming strengthening plan.
Moriyasu told reporters: “I’ll give everything to what I need to do. We’ll fight together to win next year’s Asian Cup.”
Why this reappointment matters now
Next year’s Asian Cup doubles as a key stepping-stone toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Japan’s stated goal is not just to advance out of the group but to lift the trophy.
Over the last five games Japan sit at 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat (LDWDW). Since the 2-1 reverse against Brazil on June 29, the side has lacked consistency.
Next steps and targets
Moriyasu added: “Every player must fulfil their role and show growth as a team.” Preparations will ramp up with training camps ahead of the Asian Cup.
He also addressed defensive issues exposed against Brazil: “We need to sharpen our tactics to stop opponents’ attacks.”
Fan expectations
Japan supporters have been vocal in calling for Asian Cup glory. Moriyasu’s reappointment is the first move to meet that demand.
Recent form isn’t perfect, but the team still has a clear chance to regain momentum.
