Background of Appointment
On 20 August 2026 at 15:12, former Japan international Daisuke Matsui was appointed Academy Advisor at Latvian top-division club FK Tukums 2000. Matsui explained that during the period between contracts in his playing career he trained at a Latvian club to maintain his condition, and that connection led to this offer.
Career of Daisuke Matsui
Matsui, known for his dazzling dribbling, played in Japan and France. He helped Japan reach the round of 16 at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. In 2021 he signed with YSCC Yokohama Futsal, drawing attention for his dual career in football and futsal. He retired in 2024 and subsequently worked as a coach and served as chairman of the Japan Futsal Top League, which runs the F-League.
Future Role
Matsui will collaborate with the academy coaches at FK Tukums 2000 to advise on the development of young players. FK Tukums 2000, founded in 2000 with a youth team and a senior team established in 2007, is the club where he will apply his experience.
