Japan forward Maeda Daizen has officially joined Ipswich Town on a three-year deal running until summer 2029, becoming the club’s first-ever Japanese player. Reports from Sky Sports cite a transfer fee of around £10 million (≈ ¥2.2 billion).

Maeda told the club’s official site, “I’m proud to have signed for Ipswich. Playing in the Premier League has always been a dream. I’m thrilled this club can help me make it real.” He added he felt welcomed during talks and is eager for the new challenge.
After joining Celtic in January 2022, Maeda became a mainstay over four and a half years, scoring 79 goals in 212 appearances. He helped the club win five Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups for a total of ten trophies.
In 2024/25 he netted 33 goals in 51 games, earning PFA Scotland Player of the Year. After a slow start last season, he rediscovered form, scoring in the final league game against Hearts and in the Scottish Cup final as Celtic completed a domestic double.
World Cup 2026 outlook
Maeda featured four times for Japan at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring against Sweden. With Japan’s recent form showing two wins, two draws and one loss in the last five matches (LDWDW) since the 29 June loss to Brazil, Maeda’s arrival could inject fresh energy into the attack.
Ipswich now boast their first Japanese player as they aim to compete in the Premier League. Maeda’s relentless work rate and scoring threat will be closely watched as he looks to boost the club’s firepower.
