JFA President Hiroshi Mikitani expressed his joy over the decision to host the U-23 Asian Cup, stating that it provides a platform for young players to pursue significant goals. He also emphasized: 'This age is when players grow significantly. I myself learned about the sense of mission in carrying my country's hopes and the joy of facing the world during this period, aiming for the Olympics. Please come and watch at the venue to experience the dynamism of the U-23 Japanese team as well as teams from other Asian countries.'
Under the guidance of coach Koji Onda, who will also take charge of the senior national team next year, the U-23 Japan team aims for a 9th consecutive Olympic qualification. With the number of participating teams in men's soccer at the Los Angeles Olympics being reduced from 16 to 12 compared to the previous Paralympics in Paris, and the Asian quota also decreasing from 3.5 to just 2 spots, hosting the qualification round is a significant advantage for the Onda Japan team.
