Legendary Coach Shimomura Sachio Passes Away, Leaving Golden Era Behind
Legendary Coach Shimomura Sachio, who led the team to a golden era, has passed away. 94-year-old coach Shimomura Sachio, who was born in Hiroshima, has passed away due to old age. Funeral and farewell ceremony were held for family members.
Shimomura Sachio had a representative history as a goalkeeper, and as a coach at his alma mater, Hiroshima Shudo High School, he achieved a double crown in the national high school championship and the national high school championship in 1961. After becoming the director of East Japan Heavy Industries (now J1 Hiroshima), he won the Japanese League for 5 years, including 4 consecutive championships from the 1st tournament in 1965, and won the Emperor's Cup for 3 years. He served as the director of Fujita Real Estate (now J2 Shonan) and became the director of the Japan national team in 1979-80. In 2015, he was inducted into the Japan Football Hall of Fame.
As a survivor of the atomic bombing, he continued to share his experiences at Hiroshima Shudo Middle School.
