Japan legends face Miyagi U-15 in legacy match on Sept 24
The Japan Football Association (JFA) announced on July 16 that a special match called FUTURE LEGACY MATCH in MIYAGI 2026 will be held on September 24 at Q&A Stadium Miyagi. The game pits the JAPAN DREAM - featuring Japan legends - against the MIYAGI FUTURE U-15, a team made up of U-15 players from Miyagi Prefecture.
Last result: Brazil 2–1 Japan (2026–06–29).
Why this match matters
Fifteen years after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, fewer survivors remain who can share firsthand memories. This event bridges past and future through football. The JAPAN DREAM lineup includes legends like Suzu Iwasaki, Hisato Satō, Keisuke Tsuboi, Yuji Nakazawa, Hiroshi Nakatani, Takafumi Hori, Daisuke Matsui, and Tsuneyasu Miyamoto. The MIYAGI FUTURE U-15 is made up of players born in 2011 or later, many of whom have no memory of the disaster.
The 15-minute halves symbolize the connection between past, present, and future. The JFA aims to use football to share recovery lessons and keep the spirit of ‘never forgetting the disaster’ and ‘continuing to support recovery’ alive for future generations.
What to watch and how to attend
Kickoff is set for 16:30 on September 24. Fans with tickets for the Kirin Challenge Cup 2026 - which starts at 19:05 at the same venue - can watch the legacy match. The JFA urges early arrival due to limited access.
Q&A Stadium Miyagi in Miyagi Prefecture is the symbolic host. Its location in the disaster-hit region amplifies the match’s significance.
Impact on Japan’s future
This event isn’t about the game itself. It’s about creating a living legacy to pass disaster memories forward. The exchange between legends’ experience and U-15 players’ future aspirations reaffirms unity across Japanese football.
The JFA wants to show football’s power not just as remembrance, but as a living memory. For young players who will shape Japan’s future, it’s a rare learning opportunity.
